Kaolin / China Clay

Kaolin, also known as China clay, is a white, soft, and plastic clay that is composed primarily of the mineral kaolinite. It is formed by the weathering of feldspar and is found in many locations around the world, including Pakistan.

Kaolin is widely used in the paper industry as a filler and a coating pigment. It is also used in the ceramics industry to produce porcelain and fine china. In addition, it is used in the production of paint, rubber, and plastics. The pharmaceutical industry also uses kaolin as an ingredient in some medications.

In Pakistan, Kaolin is mostly used for ceramics, paint, and paper industry. The Kaolin deposits in Pakistan are mostly found in the province of Sindh and Balochistan. The deposits in Sindh are mostly found in Lakhra, Khairpur, and Hyderabad. While in Balochistan, the deposits are found in Chaghi, Khost, and Khuzdar.

The mining of kaolin is done by open-cast method and is usually extracted from the earth by drilling and blasting. The extracted ore is then processed to remove impurities and to produce a variety of grades of kaolin that are used in different industrial applications.
